Global Partnership Steering Committee meeting a success in Ethiopia
26th July 2013 – The third meeting of the Global Partnership Steering Committee took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 25-26 July, 2013.
At the meeting, Mexico confirmed that it would host the first Ministerial-level meeting of the Global Partnership to be held in 2014.
“We regard the responsibility of hosting the first Ministerial-level meeting as a great honour and as a challenge. The development world is on the eve of a major crossroads. We need common and inclusive action, based on our successful experiences and lessons learned to improve our approach and identify areas of opportunity in order to shape the Post-2015 Development Cooperation Agenda,” said Luis Campuzano, Mexican Ambassador to Kenya, in his opening remarks to the Global Partnership Steering Committee.
“The first Ministerial-level meeting is a great opportunity to look back at how we’ve done in meeting our commitments on effective development co-operation, to be mindful of the complementarities and opportunities provided by other processes and fora and to enhance the key role the Global Partnership in the future global development framework after 2015,” he said.
The African Union Commission hosted the meeting, which began with a special session on Africa. Participants discussed African priorities for the Global Partnership and development co-operation more broadly in the run-up to the first ministerial-level meeting.
