Middle income countries: key actors for effective development co-operation

On Wednesday 11 December 2013, the Permanent Missions of Mexico and the United Kingdom co-hosted a side event on middle income countries and development co-operation under the auspices of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation, on the sidelines of the sixth session of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals.

A recorded webcast is available below.

The event aimed to deepen policy dialogue on the role of development co-operation in supporting the efforts of MICs to eradicate poverty in a universal, multi-dimensional global development framework. It also examined the role of development co-operation in ensuring that transition to middle-income status does not result in development setbacks. The discussion aims to contribute to the work of the Open Working Group by looking at global models for partnership that address the different needs and roles of different types of countries.

The event provided an opportunity to consult with the United Nations membership, as well as other stakeholders, on development co-operation in and with MICs, in advance of the First High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (Mexico City, 15-16 April 2014).

The discussion was moderated by Henry Bonsu, International Broadcaster.

Panelists included:

  • Amb. Bruno Figueroa, Director-General for Technical and Scientific Cooperation, Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID)
