Gearing up for HLM2: High-Profile Global Partnership Events in October
In the first week of October, several major effective development co-operation events were organised in the lead-up to the Second High-Level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership. Hosted by the Government of Korea, the 3rd Busan Global Partnership Forum and the Learning and Accelerating Programme took place in Korea on 6-7 October and 4-5 October. Following the Busan Forum on 8 October, the 11th Steering Committee Meeting of the Global Partnership was held in Seoul, Korea for consultations on the renewed Global Partnership mandate and the Nairobi Outcome Document.
At the 11th Steering Committee Meeting, participants considered the elements of a renewed Global Partnership mandate and reviewed contributions from multiple stakeholders on the draft Nairobi Outcome Document. Building on outcomes from the Busan Global Partnership Forum and other recent events related to preparation of HLM2, the discussion centred around the remaining steps necessary to finalise the Nairobi Outcome Document and its endorsement at the HLM2. Participants also reviewed the leaving no one behind proposal as a fifth principle of the Global Partnership and discussed preliminary findings from the 2016 Progress Report, based on results of the 2016 Monitoring Round.
Against the backdrop of implementing the 2030 Agenda, the 3rd Busan Global Partnership Forum and Learning and Accelerating Programme brought together development stakeholders from around the world to review, assess and improve the implementation of the Busan commitments at country, regional and international levels. As an inclusive platform for multi-stakeholder engagement in development co-operation, the Forum and the Learning and Accelerating Programme contributed valuable inputs to HLM2, which is now less than seven weeks away.
