Under the GPI on Social Dialogue in Development, the Trade Union Development Co-operation Network (TUDCN) and the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) held a joint Trade Union-DAC Forum in Paris on the 9th of April 2019. The Forum involved trade union representatives from all over the world and DAC members. Following discussions in previous Trade Union-DAC Forums on the role of social dialogue in development, this Forum held a specific session on The Role of Social Dialogue in Achieving the SDGs and Just Transition where the basic concepts of a Just Transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all were introduced. The Just Transition work undertaken between Nigerian trade unions and the Nigerian government was presented, and the role of development co-operation in promoting a Just Transition was discussed to see how different stakeholders can work together around climate issues for the achievement of the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.

The TUDCN is currently undertaking specific research in this area and a publication will be produced in the coming months on The Contribution of Social Dialogue to the 2030 Agenda - Promoting a Just Transition towards sustainable economies and societies for all.
